A sequence from the 1997 film directed by Paul Thomas Anderson "Boogie Nights", this sequence is scored to a Michael Penn rendition of "The Sage" (otherwise known as Susan's Song) played by the Chico Hamilton Quintet in the 1957 Alexander Mackendrick classic "Sweet Smell of Success".

@poquirian No, I don't have the full piece that was in the movie, it isn't even on the soundtrack or anywhere I've tried looking for it. When I first listened to this piece in the movie I fell in love with it too, I tried looking for it everywhere but couldn't find a recording of it, so I just decided to download the entire movie off the internet and upload this little clip up to the web. I'm glad you enjoyed it :D

To all those interested - this is not a rendition by Michael Penn (as stated in the description) but the original taken from "The Original Chico Hamilton Quintet Complete Studio Recordings" which is quite easily available to purchase on CD in glorious mono. I know this as I now own on both CD & vinyl, after a lengthy hunt.

I love this scene. After such a bright and vibrant opening at the nightclub where we are introduced to these characters we're then taken back to reality as we follow each one and see who they really are. "The Sage" was the perfect piece, Boogie Nights my favorite soundtrack of all time (with GoodFellas and The Big Lebowski just behind).
