Bok Tower Gardens is an attraction in Lake Wales Florida that features a 205 ft marble carillon tower surrounded by acres of lush, tropical gardens. This video was shot over a period of two days with the Panasonic AG-HMC40 and includes shots from a tripod, a small camera crane and a Steadicam Merlin.

  • I have this same camera. Do you normally shoot in 720 60p mode or what do you use for Youtube. I have found that shooting in 1080 60i is not the best format for editing.

I see Youtube handles the 720 60p best. Good video by the way. I live in Winter Haven and familiar with Bok.

  • @twincitybulldog - thanks for the feedback. I generally shoot in 1080p as it offers the highest resolution. I can down-convert from there if needed. Of course, if I want to shoot for slow motion, I go with 720p60. I almost never shoot in an interlaced format.

  • Very nice. I can't believe nobody hit the like button until I came along. You did great. Did you slow down some shots with the Steadicam Merlin?

  • @tank9 - thanks for the feedback! No, all of the shots are in real time, as shot. I did run a light pass of the SmoothCam filter on a couple of them to take out some of the more obvious footstep artifacts; always working to try to smooth those shots out.

  • Geat video and technique.

I own the same camera and I'm looking to get the camera on a crane with distance controller (rec, stop, zoom in-out,). Do you suggest any models or brands of controller and crane I would need ?

  • @CCFrancoOuest - I've always had pretty good luck with the VariZoom controllers. I've used them with my Canon cameras and my Panasonic cameras. Manfrotto and Bebob Engineering make well-reviewed models as well.

  • @calabazafilms - I shot the video using the camera's AVCHD codec in PH mode. Upon ingestion into Final Cut Pro, the files are converted to the higher-data rate ProRes 422 codec. I exported the finished project as an H.264 QuickTime file and then YouTube re-encodes to the H.264 Flash Video codec (for the lower-resolution versions) and the H.264 MPEG-4 codec for the higher-resolution ones. I understand Youtube is now implementing VP8 as well.
