you young inspiring artist should really take some time to go and see what Koi fish really look like. Almost to the boy {or girl} you are attempting to draw the fish in the stylized Japanese fashion; believe me, you will never gain the mind set that will allow you to do a drawing such as you see in old Japanese woodblock prints or on calligraphy scrolls. In fact most of the Japanese Koi drawings and paintings (sumi e) are simply made with standard calligraphy brush strokes. Do your own thing...
