Having studied music in college and having to put up with listening to the 20th century atonal nonsense, I think it's a genuine shame students aren't shown material like this.

Such a majority of the "avant garde" classical music of the 20th century is merely an academic exercise that has little to no redeeming aesthetic qualities. Music like this is endlessly interesting in both academic and aesthetic respects.
