August 29 / New York, NY / Rose Center
Notes: Not a tour stop per se, but a suprisingly long set in NYC, despite the rain. Introduced by James Gandolfini, Springsteen and the E Street Band opened this year's Video Music Awards with a live performance of "The Rising." Bruce's VMA opening was broadcast from the Rose Center for Earth and Space, the Planetarium at the American Museum of Natural History. The MTV cameras then took the proceedings to Radio City Music Hall, but fans who endured the rain at the planetarium were treated to half of a typical Rising show. Bruce and the band began the evening's hour-and-15-minute performance with two takes of The Rising-- one to warm up, followed by one for the cameras--and that was in addition to running through the song several times at the afternoon soundcheck.
Setlist: The Rising/The Rising/Lonesome Day/Waitin' on a Sunny Day/Darkness on the Edge of Town/Mary's Place/Thunder Road/My City of Ruins/Dancing in the Dark/Ramrod/Born to Run

Even though they have their guitars, I can't hear them. Why's that?
