An old Border pipe tune. A beaver is, allegedly, a visor on a medieval helmet - yeah, right!!!

  • When first my brave Johnie lad came to this town,

    He had a blue bonnet that wanted the crown;

    But now he has gotten a hat and a feather,

    Hey, brave Johnie lad, cock up your beaver!

    Cock up your beaver, and cock it fu' sprush,

    We'll over the border, and gie them a brush;

    There's somebody there we'll teach better behaviour,

    Hey, brave Johnie lad, cock up your beaver!

  • Well my maternal grandmother's maiden name was Burns, so who knows........

  • Sounds kinda dirty! :D But i know what it really mean!

  • nice tune even if the name sounds like a porn site

  • The pipes are made by Nigel Richard of Garvie Bagpipes.

    I knew this tune from school days, i was given a reproduced copy of the playfords book, and there a loads of great tunes in it.

  • The tune is in Playfords dancing master 1686, may be English. Beaver is obviously a hat.

  • very nice - whose make pipes are they?

  • Where would one buy a set of Border pipes like these?
