@MUDSHARK111 Absolutely agree with you bud , EAT em N Smile is probably the greatest rock album of its time , the sheer depth of the guitar playing and song writing on that masterpiece is second to none , i saw Guthrie Govan do a clinic a few months back and when asked what was the greatest guitar album of all time he replied "Eat em N Smile".
-
@Dazzler59 i remember when eat em and smile came out ,vai raised the bar considerably .yes there was speed ,but it was the color in which he painted , imaginative creative and fresh .vai style has been copied to death and his contribution largely lost in the army of players inspired by him .he is still relevant but his greatest work is eat em and smile .even thou passion and warfare was a masterpiece.

Hey!!! Neil Murray à la basse!!
-
I remember seeing a vid where Vai is using Flo II.There the neck is scalloped, but maybe its something he has got recently?
-
@verbotenco not as stupid as someone who thinks that a musician of vai,s quality couldnt play just about anything he wants to.
-
@Dazzler59 I said that whether he 'can play' fusion with extended chords, NOT whether 'he knows extended chords'. There is a big difference between 'knowing' chords (or any other music theories for that matter), and 'putting it to real-life application'. Just because one knows some exotic scales or shit, doesn't mean he or she is able to capitalize on it in a playing situation. Understand what I mean, you, Mr. Are You Fucking Stupid?
-
@verbotenco Guthrie Govan in his clinics when asked what the greatest guitar album is usually says "eat em and smile" and if one of the greatest guitarists of the jazz/fusion genre says that i thin you can safely say that vai has it covered.
-
@verbotenco so going back to you original statement of does vai know extended chords , he went to berkley , took lessons with satch and recorded the most ridiculously brilliant guitar album of the 80,s (eat em and smile) are you fucking stupid?
-
@Dazzler59 Frank Zappa is not jazz fusion. It's just 'eclectic' and 'visceral' stuff, as Steve actually stated.
-
@verbotenco you do know who he originally toured with after leaving berkley dont you?
Vai can be pretty out of tune at times, with all that whammy bar tricks.
