The older Bibles say the Word was a god. Not the G-d. That is the true translation, th ea makes a huge difference. In the commandments- Do not worship any other god than Him.

Luke 21:8 He said "Look out that you are not mislead; for many will come on the basis of my name, saying I am he,' and the due time has approached." Do not go after them.

The greek is "kai theos en ho logos" which is translated directly as "and God was the word". Which is to say "the word was God". There is no word "a" there in the original language.
