That is Iran after 1979. It is so sad! There is no such a thing as "Human Rights".
You have to lie all the time about everything.
Everybody is living a double life. People live a totally different life in-side their home than out-side their home. Of course people love, cheat, read, watch, dance, drink and...,but they have to hide and lie about it. A person can admit to who truly he is, but there is no guarantee he will live.

Simply outstanding! How I desire a genuine copy of this masterpiece to cherish in my own collection. I am yet to find a region 2 (Europe) release with English subtitles. After contacting Artificial Eye it appears this does not exist!! AE have not acquired the rights to distribute this movie pending its success on the festival circuit. Will 'About Elly' ever land in a UK store?? I'm certainly hoping so!

*Spolier alert. This movie is brilliant, although the main topic is ridiculous from a perspective of a western society.The amount of stress caused to all this people just because she had a boyfriend and she went to meet a guy is inexplicable for modern times. Apparently in Iran the remote possibility of a woman cheating is a crime beyond comprehension. This is great acting. If you loved this one, you have to see "A Separation" which is a masterpiece. Iranian movies are so awesome.
