My South Texas pond was full of Redheads (Ducks) this winter. The most I've ever seen. As the time for their February migration neared, they would often engage in agitated behavior as a flock, usually in the afternoons before they took off the spend the night in the nearby bays. Here is video from two such afternoons. Comments from those knowledgeable about such strange behavior are welcome.

  • Correct, likedovehunting. Drought had dried up most ponds around here.

We have a similar situation this winter. The pond is once again full of redheads with other ducks thrown in.

And, no, I don't allow hunting. Sorry. :)

  • a pity you dont allow huntng.....this behavior is called "chassing" and it is the mating behavior.....if u change your mind about hunting drop me a line.....

  • heaven

  • how many can u kill with one buck shot haha

  • kill em?

  • i think youll need some decoys!!!!

  • @ilikedovehunting can we talk out side this forum?

  • @suemtchlrnw Exactly, I've had people think I keep them as pets (wtf), and shoot everything that flies (misinformed), the reason why many don't like hunting is the fact that they were never correctly informed.

  • @ilikedovehunting I totally agree with everything you have said here. I would like to help make the distinction between hunters for food and shooters more obvious and public.

  • @suemtchlrnw I say could in the sense that for a leo it would be harder to prove, as opposed to not even picking up the game. Some people are in it for killing and they call themselves hunters, when in reality they are shooters. I'm anti-shooting, but pro-hunting. (I dont mean going to a shooting range, but instead I mean high fence, canned hunts, etc...). I say wanton waste in the legal sense, but it really is just waste.
