Comparison of Donkey Kong for the NES.

For a lot of 8-bit and 16-bit PAL releases (for example, this game), they just released the NTSC version in PAL territories (usually with PAL region lock) and let the PAL systems run the game in 50Hz, causing EVERYTHING to be slower, including the music.

Also, if you're wondering why I pause the game in both clips, it's because the joypad I use to play emulator games (my N64 controller) presses every button automatically if you accidentally tug the wire. In other words, it was an accident both times.

  • With super mario bros 50hz in the pal version is over 65 hz while 60 would be 85 do to speed

  • @mariogamer2010 what? pal is always 50hz, and ntsc and pal60 are always 60hz. the reason pal super mario bros's music is so fast is because nintendo screwed up when trying to speed it up to ntsc speed and accidentally increased the music speed twice or something.

  • The NTSC is much better. The PAL version plays too slow.

  • @MrHossCartwright yes but the ntsc version was already too slow to begin with ;)

  • It also proves that PAL=YESZ!

  • yeah, and in this case the music being slow doesn't matter as much because the music was already too slow in the ntsc version :)

  • I'm gonna vote PAL.

  • @NUFC4LIFE001 ¬¬

  • @Kimarnic wheres mario in this game? all i see is the princess, donkey kong and jumpman

  • Nintendo have made some incredible systems and games, but they were such incredibly stuck-up arses when it came to their treatment of PAL territories all those years ago. This is one of hundreds of examples of that.

  • @ingx32 Actually it's because they just put the notes of the music more together, instead of increasing the tempo and changing the instruments

  • Mario sounds walking...

  • @MrHossCartwright but slowness can be an advantage, you have more time to react.

  • @mariogamer2010 PAL has 50 and 60Hz from 2001 and onward.

Yes, most Gamecube games have a 50 and 60Hz option.

What do you mean PAL is only 1 second behind on 75% of NES games? They are 1/6th slower.

And what what do you mean with 0.5 slower on N64? Also 1/6th slower.

I don't know if PAL 60 is 59Hz but it wouldn't surprise me at all.

    60Hz SMB x4 faster? WTF?

  • i like that alot of people talk shit like its europes fault for getting shit conversions. i mean the official nintendo games were often converted correctly but its the 3rd party games that are just un playable

  • ntsc ftw
