Instead of seeking victory in a war against radical Islamic terrorism, the Obama administration has framed our efforts as law enforcement. Whether in Mirandizing the would-be Christmas bomber, initially seeking to try Khalid Sheikh Muhammed in a New York City civilian courtroom, or engaging in a headlong rush to close the Guantanamo Bay prison, the president's Justice Department has politicized justice and imperiled national security. These misguided efforts, as Andrew McCarthy argues, are confusing, but even more, mark a security and constitutional crisis. Charting a diff erent path, this talk will offer a preview of the speaker's forthcoming book, The Grand Jihad: How Islam and the Left Sabotage America.

Andrew C. McCarthy is a senior fellow at the National Review Institute (NRI), a contributing editor at National Review, and co-chairman of the Center for Law and Counterterrorism, a joint project of NRI and the Foundation for Defense of Democracies. He is the author of the New York Times bestseller, Willful Blindness: A Memoir of the Jihad. For 18 years McCarthy was Assistant United States Attorney in New York, where from 1993 to 1995 he was the lead prosecutor in the terrorism case against Sheikh Omar Abdel Rahman and eleven others in the 1993 World Trade Center bombing. After the 9/11 attacks Mr. McCarthy supervised the Justice Department's Command Post near Ground Zero. Published widely, he is a regular contributor to National Review.

The First Principles on First Fridays monthly lecture series was launched in 2008 by the Hillsdale College Allan P. Kirby, Jr. Center for Constitutional Studies and Citizenship in Washington, D.C.
