She is not old.

@drbarbarabaker old girl??? you might have to rephrase that

In a sense, Fleming has returned to her beginnings, having made her NYC Opera debut in this role in 1989. This interpretation reminds me of other great Mimìs (Melba, Sayão, Bori, De los Angeles). This is singing of the highest order, and a pivotal moment for the character. Her "Bada, sotto il guanciale c'è la cuffietta rosa" is particularly moving. Welcome home. Bravissima!

@drbarbarabaker RF is the same age as me, and we're not all that old:) ---

@leonardovittori1 Yes, excellent way to put it! I agree.

@LohengrinT You are right.. she would make a great Mimi.. her voice is inately dark enough for the role.. and very feminine.. She sounds fragile.. Lets put it this way, it is my second favorite donde lieta..

@htshoward Tebaldi's top was " old school" singing.. those singers, really believed in a tight focus... they wanted a buzz in their voices... they worked at focusing the sound through the mask.. and that is where her metal came from.
First time in my life I liked and listened "Donde lieta usci" from the start till the end
Gorgeous singing

This is a profound singer of great beauty! She is definitely not an "old girl" but a woman in her prime, able to use all of her skills and experience to bring a moment of delight to us!
