Dom Mintoff [born 1916], Malta's former prime minister (1955-58; 1971-84), together with Karmenu Mifsud Bonnici (also a former PM, 1984-87), holds a meeting in Zejtun on behalf of FMI (Front Maltin Inqumu).

Mintoff speaks about how the prime minister of the time (Eddie Fenech Adami, 1987-96; 1998-2004) had abandoned Malta's neutrality and failed to work for peace in breach of the Maltese Constitution. Mintoff also speaks about Malta's impending membership of the EU (joined 2004) and the US imperialist ventures across the globe, particularly in the Middle East. He lambasts Fenech Adami for offering Malta's port facilities to Amercian warships and points out how these national and global actions are placing Malta's future in serious jeapoardy.

Mintoff also ventures into the past, giving an insight into his meetings during the Helsinki CSCE conference in 1975 with the British foreign minister Lord Carrington and his Soviet counterpart Alexei Gromyko concerning security in Europe and the Mediterranean... Mintoff's main argument here is that Malta's goals must be to first prevent the then-imminent US war on Iraq, and then to strive solely for peace among nations.

At the end, Mifsud Bonnici reads a Declaration to US President George W. Bush appealing for a halt to ongoing preparations to invade Iraq.

  • Mintoff was Malta's greatest Prime Minister. Before he was elected in 1971 Malta was only a state. When he left office he had created a NATION from nothing.

  • come on Mintoff was and still is a great politician. i come from a family that in his time " qalat kemm alla halaq go halqa" but we must say the truth he was great for malta

    Bil-privatizzazzjoni tan-Nazzjonalisti :

    2) Nies qieghda zdiedu b'mod drastiku

U Mintoff dahhal f'Malta l-idea ta' opinjoni u Freedom of Speech, apparti l-fatt li dahhal is-servizzi socjali(Welfare State)
