This video is another in the series of Student Guides for Mesa Community College's Canvas Classrooms. This time, we're going to talk about the Grades tool, and how you can use it to predict the future.

Really!

Assuming your instructor is utilizing the Grades tool, you'll see the link on the left once you log in to your course. If you click on it, you're going to see a list of all assignments in your current course and any grades that have been posted. The percentage you see on the right includes only the assignments that have been graded so far.

On this list of assignments, those grades are always highlighted so you can find them quickly.

Scroll down to the bottom of the page, and you'll see subtotal percentages for each category of assignments, and at the very bottom, you'll see an overall course percentage.

But now, let's use Canvas to look into the future. Let's say you want to know what kind of a grade to expect if you got perfect scores on those other assignments.

It makes a difference, doesn't it!

So, you can always go through the grade book and see what kind of grades you would need on your assignments to get an A.

Sadly, Canvas doesn't actually save these grades or post them to your instructor's grade book. It just gives you a temporary look at what could happen to your grade. When you're done, click on "Revert to actual score," or just leave the grade book, and your grades will all reset to what they were before.

And that's how you can use the Grades tool to predict the future!

Please have a look at the other Student Guides in this series.
