Grizzly Bear - Khutzeymateen P6150087

Khutzeymateen - close encounter with a grizzly in the Khutzamateen valley. The protected area is teaming with the bears in June when they emerge from their dens to feed on the rich grass. They are in the region for about a month, then head up the river to catch the salmon spawning. The region is only accessible by boat or float plane. It takes about 1 1/2 hours by boat. We went on H2O Adventures, run by Troy Leighton out of Prince Rupert, B.C. On our trip we saw a half a dozen bears up close, with more from a distance.
