Great tune. This is the original first pressing of Come On Honey. Come On Honey was also pressed on the Island label with a different flip in the early 60s. The label was from the Bronx but the record was actually pressed and distributed in Jamaica. I don't think many copies made it to America. I think this song inspired My Boy Lollypop by Millie Small (another Jamaican pop song). I believe The Jiving Juniors were living in The Bronx at the time because that also recorded for Asnes records, another Bronx label. Their origins are most definitely Jamaican.

  • The picture on the label lists the song as Sugar Dandy yet you list it as the first pressing of Come On Honey. Was this an overisight on your part or am I mistaken?

  • @drdjtravelingshow - It's the same record. Come On Honey is on the other side.

  • it's not jamican doo wop it's ska. oi

  • You're right that this is ska, but it is also a doo wop record. American R&B of the 50's and 60's heavily influenced Jamaican music, and without it Jamaican music wouldn't be what it is today. I don't have enough room here to explain the evolution of Jamaican music, but if you read a little more deeply on it you'll be amazed at the connection between doo wop, 50's rock and roll and Jamaican music. Bob Marley and The Wailers started out as a doo wop group - no lie

  • Hi PJ, is the flip worth posting?, never heard the flip.

  • It's not bad. I'll have to dig the record out and post it.

  • We had a sign in the record store where I once worked that said, "All sales final on Jamaican vinyl." When I inquired about it I was told it was because we couldn't vouch for the quality of the pressing. I always thought it was a catchy phrase though. Would have made a great bumper sticker.
