@lovedmusic Neil Jennings made it out. I haven't ever read anything from his RIO, but there's a few bits written by the pilot himself here and there on the web. The incident is reasonably well documented, although the pilot discounts the investigation's findings into what exactly happened.

both crewmembers lived. the pilots name was neil jennings. he was my commanding officer in VFA-147. he wrote about this incident on ebaums world. go read about it.
