FPV flight with the 720p HD keychain camera

This is some sample video taken with the HD 808 keychain camera attached to my Hobby King EPP FPV RC model plane while on a 1.3Km journey across the New Zealand countryside.

Also onboard was a Hobby King 900MHz video system modified to operate on NZ-legal frequencies.

Unfortunately the RF output of the HK video transmitter is rich in harmonics that cause the 2.4GHz RC receiver to be significantly desensitized, limiting the pracitical operating range to not much more than 1Km. By comparison, I have flow the FoxTech 200mW 5.8GHz video system out to distances in excess of 2.2Kms.

Is there a good cheap way to determine how much harmonics is put out by my 900MHz transmitters?

@videoguy837 Apart from throwing them on a spectrum analyzer, no there's no "easy" way. I'm going to do a spectral analysis of the HK 900MHz stuff and see how it looks. I'll also be making a 1GHz low-pass filter that should significantly reduce any harmonic output.

how much does the plane weigh flight-ready? I'm going to put my not-yet-received Hobby King 900mhz FPV system on a 3.1 meter, electric (pusher-prop) glider that's never been flown yet and it needs a LOT of nose ballast.

Not that it means anything to you. Just wondering what your plane weighs.

@CrackerMcGillicuddy I haven't actually weighed the model but this weekend I fitted 2x4400mAH 3S lipos for extra endurance/range and they represent almost 1Kg of weight on their own so I figure it's probably around 3Kg or so by now. The 8800mA of battery allowed me to fly for 35 minutes with 3500mAH in reserve

It's such a shame that you don't get more hits on this. Have you talked to other Youtubers? Perhaps you should try to get a hold of Dave of RCPowers. While your channel is focused on a different area of R/C, I'd guess 80%+ of his traffic would find your video's amazing as well.
