Lately, we hear about Tent City's and golden-voice homeless being discovered but the stark reality is that helping the homeless is a two-front battle:

One front is reaching and rescuing people from the despair of job loss, domestic violence, returning veterans overcoming the scars of war or people battling addiction.

The other front is battling the predacious or bureaucratic politics who don't want help in their area. N.I.M.B. which means not in my backyard.

For the past 46 years the Atlantic City Rescue Mission has met these challenges successfully with food and shelter and care for Men, Women and children; a medical clinic, counseling and psychiatric care. In the last few year we have been fortunate enough to be able to lend a hand to families struggling with recent job loss due to a failing economy by providing financial support in the form of utility payments, mortgage payments, and rent to people across the social spectrum who were hit hard with the fluctuating national economy. Yet for every success come a new challenge.

As state institutions can not support the vast influx of returning veterans who are readjusting from the trauma of war, not to mention early prison release without a plan for proper re-introduction with society, the problems eventually land on the door of the Mission as we have a success-rate for create help when none is available.

But for all the people who talk about helping, 9-time-out-of-10 we find they are just paying lip service to the growing need and sweeping the social problem under the rug.

Persecution still exists. Sometimes it vocal, and sometimes it's silent but it a community, state, and nationwide problem that we can no-longer divert our eyes and attention from. In the face of this growing social epidemic, real solutions and real adult dialogue are required to overcome the dilemma of the prejudice and persecution of homeless to that real and lasting change can occur.

In order for the AC Rescue Mission to meet the challenges we need to enlist your, help and your ideas to overcome apathy and disparity of the homeless issue. Please post your ideas here on our YouTube or Facebook Video Wall or contact Bill at the Mission at 609-345-5517 if you would like to help.
