Israel: a noble mistake? There are those in the mainstream media who attempt to spread this notion, emphasizing that the now 60-year-old nation was a flawed concept from the beginning. Daniel Pipes firmly disagrees. He says Israel is a tremendous success in every quantifiable area, from its economy to its freedoms to its scientific advancements to its cultural uniqueness. The trouble Israel has, says Pipes, is that its neighbors dont accept it.

Daniel Pipes is the director of the Middle East Forum, a Philadelphia-based think tank. Currently the Taube/Diller distinguished fellow at the Hoover Institution, he earned a doctorate in early Islamic history from Harvard in 1978. He is the author of 12 books, including Militant Islam Reaches America and Miniatures: Views of Islamic and Middle Eastern Politics. He writes a weekly column for the Jerusalem Post.

Israel defends itself in the sense that any tyrannical military occupier would defend itself in the process of crushing the natives. Israel is a military super-power, obviously backed mainly by;America, the UK, and Australia. With this in mind, note that the Palestinians are about as much of a threat to Israel as Granada is to the USA. More Israelis have died from peanut allergies in the last 8 years than from Palestinian rockets! Mr. Pipes is nothing but a charlatan getting paid to lie well.
