  • Thanks for posting and keeping alive the spirit of network daytime game shows.

I remember seeing the $10,000 win in '75.. It must have been a Tuesday or Friday as that's when I was home from school early. The $10,000 winner was a young, personable African American lady. Jim gave her the Show-Down dice as a souvinier. (I wanted those) I can remember this event 35 years later...even the board flashing $10,900 (her total winnings)

  • you're welcome. do you or anyone has that clip? if so, i really do wanna post that up. that would be great to see!

  • The Big Showdown was one of the best gameshows ever. thanks coleyd for posting a full episode.

  • no problem homie!

  • sure did.

  • This is my most favorite game show of all-time. I was rather disappointed when the show left the air after just one season. I enjoyed the pace of this game, and that Jim Peck was a most congenial host.

  • @HarlemHyena, I think using a bunch of dice is easier, cause there's no stoppage in between rolls, it gives the contestant more time.plus it's a symbol of the show

  • I think the reason champions retired after rolling "Show" and "Down" was because of ABC's $20,000 winning limit.

  • There were two $10,000 wins. I seem to remember that one of them was during the week after Christmas in 1974.

  • If Big Showdown were to come back, I'd recommend that a different table be used.

I'd borrow the table from TPiR's Dice Game and the rake from Let 'em Roll. That way there would be fewer pairs of dice used up; one pair could last for at least a week!

  • @wkyken It would be nice if someone brings it back, burt Peck is approaching his 70's and might be a little too old.

  • I was 5 when this show was on,my brother and I would take those wood blocks with letters on them, and slide them down out little tykes kid slide,if you got 2 of the same letter that was the winning combo, such memories

  • I was a contestant on that show. I won $5,600. What fun!! I wish they hadn't destroyed the tapes. I would love to see it again.

  • @coleyd I so wish I had that clip. It is just a 35+ year old memory. But a vivid memory. The contestant was much more personable than the average quiz show contestant (IE: Big Showdown/ Jeopardy!) and Jim clearly -without playing favorites- liked her. I think he stated after the win that it couldn't have happened to a nicer person. I wonder if the contestant (who must be in her 60s) is online and is seeing this...maybe she taped it. It was a standout moment!

  • This show seems really cool. Add me to the list of those wanting a revival.

  • Andy looks like a very young Tom Hanks.
