I was out doing a little detecting in the front yard and stumbled upon a buried cache of pennies near the driveway. I have hit this area before and got a really large signal and passed on digging it because I was assuming it would end up being a car part or other large junk item. I was pleasantly surprised when I started digging.
I hardly ever take any pics of my finds while out in the field, but after digging a nice handful out of that small hole I had to stop and snap a quick pic. Then I flipped over the next big patch of grass only to find more pennies. That's when I went ahead and snapped a couple more pics. Then I decided since this was my first cache I better run inside and grab the actual camera and get some video. The first pics were taken with my cell phone.
Now that I've had some time to think about it; I have a feeling that it wasn't a kids buried cache.. I think it may have been the result of the previous owners cleaning out a car. Some people will throw out pennies after plucking the "silver" coins out. Taking into consideration the large area it was in I don't see a kid burying it like that.

  • @edmm976

    Jealous much..? lmao

I assure everyone(even the obviously blind) that the site was not "salted."

  • haha nice find david! now let's take it to North Padre Island and try to find that sunken Spanish galleon!

  • @alexrex20 If they catch you with a detector on the North Padre they will confiscate it and you won't see it again. lol

It's happened to a couple of guys on the MDing forums already. That law is for all National Parks and most State Parks also.

  • I thought that such devices existed only in cartoons XD nice

  • @jorasave

I had a guy watch me at a playground for about 15minutes. He finally came up and asked if it really worked.(this after watching me pull a dozen coins out of the ground) Turns out he thought metal detecting was a scam because his neighbor had one and never could find anything with it.

Needless to say they work, and I only have a cheapo one that cost $200-$250 new. The "good ones" are between $800-$1500.

  • Wow... imagine if mario had to dig a hole in the ground every time he wanted to get a coin.

  • I'm more interested in the tire at the beginning, looked like it belonged to a nice truck.

  • @erpiv "Salted site" Means someone put the item/items there to be found on purpose. Example would be... Metal detecting clubs will Salt a site before an event so the participants can enjoy finding lots of goods.

Bad "salted sites" are usually found when someone is selling a gold claim and salts the area with a little surface gold to make it look as if it's loaded with gold.

  • @TrailChaser would one thats about 50 bucks work good enough for simple things, like helping me find well hidden geocaches?

  • @TrailChaser What does salted mean???

  • how much money did you end up with?

  • how does someone lose that many coins when paving your driveway O_O (guess to how they got there)

  • cool ....what years are on the coins ?? a 1910 wheat penny comes in at $30.....

  • lmao who fuckin cares

  • you found some kids penny stash
