Best Friend's Brother; Chapter 1

'I call you up when I know he's at home. I jump out of my skin when he picks up the phone. Why can't I tell if he's looking at me? Should I give him a smile? Should I get up and leave?'
"Hello?" A deep voice spoke.
'Oh no,' Kylie thought. She knew the voice too well. "Uh, Nick?" She cleared her throat. 
"Kylie?" Nick responded.
"Uhm, yeah. It's me..." Kylie trailed off, biting her lip.
"Hang on, I'll call Jenna." He said and Kylie heard him yell Jenna's name. 
"No!" Kylie wanted to say. But she didn't. Why would she even bother talking to Nick anyway?
"Hey hey hey!" Jenna's voiced cheered through the speaker of Kylie's phone.
"Hey....What's up?" Kylie replied.
"Not much, my brother and his friends, including your brother, are annoying the hell out of me!" Jenna said, her tone turning into an angry one.
Kylie laughed. "Why? What're they doing?" 
Jenna sighed and Kylie could imagine her running her hand through her black hair. "COD. 'Nuff said."
"Ohhh." Kylie responded, nodding her head even though she knew Amber couldn't see her.
"Come over? I'm so bored. And I need to study for the big History test coming up." Jenna said.
"Sure. I'll be over in 5," Kylie smiled and hung up. She shut down her laptop and put it in her bag, along with her history book. She slipped on her flip flops and walked downstairs. "Dad, I'm going to Jenna's house."
"Alright," Kylie's dad shouted from his office. "Be home with Madison before 11!"
"Kay!" Kylie shouted, shutting the front door. 
Jenna's house wasn't too far from Kylie's, just about six houses down. As she reached her house, she began to feel nervous. Why was she feeling this way? She had no idea. Upon reaching the doorstep, Kylie rang the doorbell. The door opened in just a second and Jenna appeared at the door with a marshmellow in hand. 
"KAAAAI-LEEEE!" Jenna said, enveloping her in a tight up.
Kylie smiled at her friend. She immediately knew she was hyper, who knows how. "Jen," Kylie said, referring to her nickname as she stepped inside. "No more chocolate or marshmellows or whatever you're eating."
"It's a marshmellow and okay, Ms. Party pooper." Jenna joked. She stuffed the marshmellow in her mouth. 
"Jenna, who's at the door?" A well too known voice asked as the two girls passed by the living room. Nick turned his head and saw Kylie standing at the doorway. "Oh. Hey Kylie." 
"Hi." Kylie replied quietly.
Madison looked at Kylie. "Sup sis." The other boys gave her the 'sup' nod and Kylie smiled in response.
"Okay, well we're going to study. Bye losers," Jenna said, pulling Kylie as they walked up the stairs.
-20 minutes later-
"Ughhh, Ky, let's stop. Reading gives me headaches." Jenna groaned and began to rub her temples. Kylie chuckled and closed her book. 
"HAHA IN YOUR FACE SUCKER!" Nick's voice yelled from downstairs.
"No fair!", "You suck, man.", "Aww!" shouts followed after. 
"Shut up. Let's play truth or dare." Nick said a bit too loud.
Kylie bit her lip and looked at her friend, who's eyes were closed. Kylie cleared her throat, causing her friend to open her eyes. "I'm gonna go get another cup of juice." Jenna nodded and closed her eyes. Kylie grabbed her cup and walked out, stopping in front of the mirror placed on the wall. She looked into it, fixing her brown curls and checked her face. She turned and looked downstairs. The boys were in a circle, laughing about something Jason said. Nick suddenly looked up and smiled a bit, seeing Kylie. Kylie blushed and looked away, slowly walking downstairs. She walked into the kitchen, feeling Nick's eyes watching her. The boys continued to play and Kylie watched them laugh. Nick looked at her and Kylie flashed him a small smile then turned around. 'Why am I feeling like this?' Kylie thought. 
Nick, who was slightly shocked, smiled when Kylie turned around. Nick definitely thought Kylie was hot - he wasn't going to deny that. Kylie is funny, smart, and beautiful. Nick wasn't sure why he was only noticing these things about her now, but since they were older, he was beginning to feel different around her. A good different.
