I have 2 questions. How is the november fishing for largemouth bass and crappie? Also, Is it legal to shoot in this park?

Fishing reports have been good for bass and catfish and improving for crappie now that the weather has cooled off.
It is not legal to shoot anything in the park. No plants, animals, or targets, and no types of firearms, which are defined as anything that shoots a projectile.

I'd like to camp here. It looks beautiful. However, my camping bud is afraid to go this area since he is black and I am white. Is the campsite gated and locked at night? Is the campsite next to the location(s) where the peace officers reside?

There are 3 Park Police Officers on staff with 2 of them residing on site with camping areas in close proximity to their residences. The gates lock at 10:00pm and open at 7:00am and you must be a registered overnight guest to obtain the combination to the gate. The park is extremely safe - thousands of visitors from many different races and ethnic groups visit the park each year. We encourage you to contact the park directly (409)384-5231 with any concerns.

The horrific dragging death of James Byrd occurred in Jasper, TX in 1998, not in the park. The park has 2 licensed peace officers who reside on site. Visitors from all over the world enjoy the safety and serenity of Martin Dies, Jr. State Park.

My grandfather lived in this area for many years and we would visit the park, river and lake area and watch and see the remote beauty of this incredibly dense area. It is a true "site to be seen". I will be back soon with my teenage boys to view the beauty soon. An example of the vast diversity of Texas land.

Began camping there when the area was called " Dam B " and I still think it's the best State Park in Texas!

I love this place. I've spent many hours cruising up and down the Angelina and Neches river taking in all the natural beauty that so many people don't take the time to enjoy. I hope that this piece of heaven is preserved for many years to come so that people can enjoy the duck hunting, fishing and camping that I have. Thanks for posting TPWD!!!

My family and I have been camping in this park for what seems like my whole life. We've had my entire family here so so so many times and I have a ton of memories. I love it. It's my favorite place to be. I adore waking up in the morning and having coffee near the water. We've never had any problems of any kind. Yeah, this is, in my world, my lil piece of paradise. See you in June! :)
