Using the Bond Garter Bar

I bought it when they still had some leftover inventory a few years ago ($36). It consisted of 3 sections with a total of 120 prongs and was, I believe, originally made for the Studio/Silver Reed SK120/Bulky 8 metal bed machine which had the same spacing of 8mm as the Bond. While it works well with 1 section on the Bond, it is not as good with all 3 sections as the spacing is off just a little. It works perfectly with all 3 sections on the SK120/Bulky 8.

Thanks for this. I need to find/make a garter bar and now I have a better idea how to use it. A quick question -- why do you need to sweep the carriage across when all of the needles are in HP? Is that just to get the carriage on the correct side?

You're welcome and, yes, it's only to get the carriage and the yarn to the other side where they need to be after turning the piece without getting the yarn tangled up in the needles. I did a lot of practicing with a much longer homemade garter bar a while ago and tried to cut it down to as few moves as possible.

Wow, I guess that's why there aren't very many garter-stitched clothes available in stores! It seems like it might be faster to just hand-knit a garter row.
