Bring back handguns in the UK!

Whilst in Australia summer (summer 2008) as a keen shooter i managed to try something that only the military allowed me to do legally. Midland gun club Western Austarlia
Since the ban on handguns in 1996. Handgun crime has more than doubled, this just goes to prove that knee jerk reactions and changes in the law by politicians don't work and that the guns used in crime werent the legally held ones by responsible firearms holders.
It's time that the ban was lifted once and for all!

Dude! You should post a political statemtent about this issue. We need more people like you who know the truth, willing to fight the tyrants who took your guns away, and get the law changed.

I live in Texas, this state is one of the safest places in the world as far as I am concerend. Not saying crime doesn't happen, but since the state started allowing us to carry hand guns, the crime rate has not stopped dropping.

You should make a political statement.

There are a lot more things that went on in the background to bring about this ban in the first place. All the singing and dancing in the world isn't going to make the slightest bit of differance.

So the UK government banned pretty much all hand guns and semi automatic weapons with the promise of reduced gun crime. Did it work? Nope not even close to it. Not only did crimes involving guns not drop but it actually increased. The 10 years flowing the ban showed quite a shocking increase in crimes involving handguns. How is this so? Simply the government lied to use. The criminals had illegally held guns to start with so no ban was ever going to effect it.

I support the lift on the ban of hand guns... as you've stated in the description, illegally held hand guns were used in the crimes not legally held ones, alas police didnt do enough to stop massacars even though they knew that the people who did it needed the license taken away etc etc... alas seeing as hand guns are off ticket theres no trace of hand guns in the UK... thus why crooks can get em easier...

@MarineAqua45 Hi mate..The RFD said it was a semi,so he was wrong there then,which means the whole thing could be rubbish,hope it is.He didn`t know where the info came from but all he said was it came from high up.I have been trying to find out from everywhere what the government plans to do now the meetings have all finished but have drawn a blank.Maybe its the calm before the storm.

@Marlever357 All I cansay is that I highly doubt that .22 semis will get the chop,because if they try it,their own people,will be after Cameron,especially Camerons own local councillors,like Robert Oulds,not to mention all of the countryside&middle-England.But I will not dismiss this as someones random,foolish rumours,because I think that all polititions have to make sacrificial lambs of something.The gun used by Bird was a bolt-action.22&not a semi-auto.Was this organisation the BASC?

@MarineAqua45 Thats answered a question for me.I was wondering when we were going to get the bad news from the Select Home Commitees enquiry into firearms laws.I was talking to an RFD the other day and he told me that there has been whispers between gun dealers that we are facing a ban on .22 semi-autos.He then told me that this info came from someone close to the top of one of our shooting organisations.Probably get the bad news just before the next election,gain votes for the tories..
