I like to think of the first decan as cardinal of the element it is in. So, the first 10 degrees of Capricorn is "double capricorn," the first 10 degrees of taurus is "capricorn of taurus," whereas central taurus is "double fixed taurus," or "taurus of taurus" etc. This seems to work really well if you think about it. Like, what would "double mutable" be, the last 10 degrees of the mutable signs. I like to think of decans as modalities within the modalities, same structure but a "smaller" scale
