  • I really think it sux that they still tour under the name of Thin Lizzy when there's no Phil or Brian Downey. Too be honest as well most hardcore fans probably rate Sykes as the WORST Lizzy guitarist - he's just a cock rock wanker. Lizzy was a hard rock band with one hell of a cool singer - this is just tragic.

  • Sykes the worst guitarist........Sykes gave the band the kick in the arse and the harder edge they needed at the time to go out on a high with the thunder and lightning album......I've saw the Sykes fronted version loads of times and they always do a good show.

  • Thunder & Lightning stinks. If you enjoy that's fine - you obviously like guitar wankery.

I'd rather listen to one of their great records or watch Live & Dangerous or the Opera House show on dvd anyday. The only great post Lynott thing has been the one tribute show on here with Gary Moore & Brian Downey - it was done tastefully and in the right spirit of Lynott. Also they didn't take it on the road to milk as much cash out of it as possible.

  • I really don't think there's megabucks being made here.......its more of a side line for Sykes......they only play small theatres even here in ireland.

  • Just heard drummer Michael Lee died 24th

    November aged 39...R.I.P.

  • I saw this lineup live in Portland and I saw John Sykes with his band, Blue Murder in San Antonio, TX back in the mid 90's. After the concert he came out to meet the fans and I enjoyed talking with him about his short lived time with Thin Lizzy. I understand why some Thin Lizzy fans might not like the direction the band took with Thunder and Lightning, but I think it was a natural progression.

  • @Phrenny Chinatown is a great album.

  • @DeluxeReissue Sykes is one of the most underrated players ever!!! That is why Phil promoted him that much! And Sykes is one of the most respectfuls to Phil's memory...

  • I saw this line up in a small club in San Diego & they were very good . Sykes nailed it vocally & on guitar. It was one of the best small club shows I`ve seen . Same venue (Brick by Brick) I saw Uli Roth open for Michael Schenker Uli was standing next to me watching when Schenker was playing

  • Thin Lizzy are my favourite band, and they made me want to be a guitarist and have and still to this day influence the way I play and all I do musically.

But with all due respect, Phil passed 25 years ago now, and I commend these guys for keeping it going, they aren't try to carry it on with new material, they respect that phil was the main force of the band, and play his songs for his memory and the fans, and if John Sykes was shit as people say, Phil wouldn't have chose him to be in the band!

  • I agree with brox68, I also think that Sykes added some harmonic sofistication to the songs on Thunder and Lightning. Thin Lizzy's worst guitarist was Midge Ure!

  • Sykes always had too much of a metal sound for Lizzy, in my opinion. like trying to hammer down a square where a circle should be, doesnt quite fit. same thing with his first few years in Whitesnake. brilliant player on his better days, but not quite right...Whitesnake's 1987 was spot on and perfect for the time thou( the European version, not the watered down american version with Vandenberg/Campbell) and BlueMurder wasnt bad at all ...not right for Lizzy thou...opinion.. :)

  • What!?'!?... so sad to see. Sykes was a good guitarist in the 80s in Lizzy but now he sucks. He's a show-off and has no soul - they have gone too far.

1:10-1:14 Sad, they dont even remember the turnaround... totally messed up solo... and what a bad drummer :(

    Phil and Thin Lizzy R.I.P.

  • Sykes was by no means the worst guitarist in Lizzy... problem is on their day Lizzy had some of the best Bell, Moore, Robertson and Gorham to name 4 others. Start with Snowy White it just wasn't him. Like said elsewhere Sykes give the band a much needed kicj up the back side and allowed it to go out on a high after some low years.
