I also caught this on House and had to find out more about it. I'd love to hear a clearer version. Does anyone know if it is available? Also, does anyone know Lily's background or other recordings? Can't find anything on the net.

Have just told @slurrrpy - this is not Lily Allison on the "House" episode "Lockdown". It's Natalie Merchant singing and the song is called "Birds and Ships" from her "Retrospective 1990-2005 DELUXE edition".

@flutesnoot Just as Gilliancatt has been explaining, the version aired on House was the original performed by Natalie Merchant (with Billy Bragg / Wilco on the album Mermaid Avenue). As for my background? I created this recording as a birthday present for my fiance in 2008. I was sitting on the living room floor, recording with my computer's speakers (thus, the low quality). I recorded over myself several times, and added the random ambient noises of seagulls, waves, and bells.

@slurrrpy The "House" version is not sung by Lily Allison but is sung by Natalie Merchant on her album entitled "Retrospective 1990-2005 Deluxe edition". Please note there are 2 of these albums and the non-deluxe version does not have this song which is titled "Birds and Ships".
