Spinks Holmes I sweetfights.com Spinks makes history bulking up from a skinny light-heavyweight into a muscular heavyweight with even less body fat with the help of training guru Mackie Shilstone
How people can say Holmes was not an all time great makes me feel sick. At his peak he would cause all the other greats real problems and I feel would beat most of them. He just got old over night in this fight - TheGatorfan93 is right, why would you fight a shifty, fleet of foot light heavy when you're 35 and slowing down? Doesn't make any sense!
The only way Spinks can win a round so far its like the "Tyson rule" of losing the whole round, being controled all around the ring and get hit with points/jabs .. but YOU Spinks/Tyson lands 2 clean punches, can you win a round??? NO! Of course not!
@onepunch1968 I started watching boxing at this time,and i do remember spinks was considered a joke of an opponent.Some even sarcastically said ''is he fighting hagler next?'' 6-1 doesn't seem big,but its still one of the biggest upsets.Everyone thought spinks sacrificed his great strength in speed,with added weight,but it didn't show.His performance reminded me of what leonard did to hagler.Quick flurries,of ALL kinds of punches(left hooks,right crosses,uppercuts),then on his bicycle.Perfection
@TheGatorfan93 Can't believe Holmes fought Spinks when he needed one win to equal RM's record. Was he a mandatory challenger or what ? Spinks is a nightmare to fight. No doubt lots of people wanted Holmes to lose cos Rocky was very popular. Holmes IS hard to assess, but I would say he'd clean up today.
I think holmes matched up well with foreman.Jimmy young was able to give foreman a boxing lesson,so i think holmes would be even more convincing.But,it didn't happen.Holmes is hard to judge,because he had heart,great jab,skills galore.But,he never unified the titles,never cleaned out the division,and fought really weak competetion,instead of more skilled top rank fighters.Politics or not,that can't be argued.Really to tough to judge his legacy.

@Myndir
I have it 39-37 for Spinks.
Only saw half of the 1st round......Holmes may have won it, I don't know. But I gave it to Spinks.
Either way, close fight so far.
