@ptownfreddy Very well said! I agree. I prefer Evie Sands, mostly because of all the soul she puts into it. like you said... I love your comment "but history will favor her flop in romantic terms..."

I really like that recording. Sounds fresh and convincing, even after all these years. To bad there's no best-of of evies sixties recordings...
-
@MreViewer ah, seems she didn't compose it but a super version nonetheless

Brilliant! I'm ashamed to say that I never heard Evie before - let alone that she composed this brilliant song (made famous by the Hollies). Thanks for posting and viva YouTube!

@rhythm61 Her version of "Angel in the Morning" is bland...but the Evie Sands production and perormance for "Take Me For A Little While" and "I Can't Let Go" are the best versions. I love the reverbed high notes at the end...it gives the song such a cool hypnotic effect. Speaking of Brit bands covering girl-group songs...the orignal "Do Wah Diddy" by the Exciters is much better vocally...and Bessie Banks' "Go Now" is magical, even though the Moody Blues managed a very decent cover.

I never knew that this is THE original to the classic shoegaze hit "How you satisfy me" by sonic boom / Spectrum (which is great by itself)...
This ROCKS!!!

Evie rocks out in this hot track...classic should have been a chart-topper but still around for all to savor & enjoy...a true master, bravo Evie, you rock!!!

@TheMgeek I agree. So many British invasion covers are empty husks compared to the originals, yet they were vastly more popular. Once again artistry takes a poor second to commerce and marketing.
Evie Sands rocks. My new favorite singer!

Um, no!
I love the Hollies' energy; their cover is crisp and excellent. But Evie's got waaay more SOUL, and her Motown-inflected band (which, granted, doesn't touch the Hollies) is better suited to VOCALS, which are the focus in this version.
The approaches are different, but equally valid. The Hollies had the hit and she had the flop, so if you want to evaluate in those terms there's no question. But history will favor her flop in romantic terms, because it was so DAMN GOOD!
