PART 2: This special, taped in January 1979 (six months before Hope would tape his historic 3-hour special in Peking and Shanghai China) was one of his highest-rated shows of the 1970s. Performances by Debbie Reynolds, Sammy Davis, Jr., Pat and Debby Boone were as good as they get. Under the able guidance of producer Buz Kohen, the special is tight, funny and musically outstanding. The show was simply musical-variety television at its best.
