@Durwagon I thought in the original series his original intent was to set himself up to get close to the Zabi's and kill them.

Char is interesting in that while he changes from an antagonist to a protagonist and back, he himself doesn't actually change sides. He's always fighting against the Earth Federation; In Zeta the series itself switched sides, not Char.

@ssonic15 I don't think Char's so much a villain as he is an anti-hero, or at least an antagonist. Even more so an anti-hero in Zeta.

@GodOfDeathCT Yeah, calling Char a villain is a bit sketchy. Definitely an antagonist, but a bad guy or villain? He's a little too sympathetic for that. Less so by the time Char's Counterattack rolls around, though.

@darksword101 Yeah, his original intent was to rise in the ranks, kill the Zabi family in revenge and take over (though he had no problem fighting the Earth Federation and never had any love for them). Toward the end of the original Gundam he takes up the philosophy he espouses through Zeta Gundam and Char's Counterattack.
