@DontReplytoComment LOL. And being Puerto Rican means having a certain look? Looking and being are 2 completely different things. There is NO such thing as looking Puerto RIcan. And there are plenty of African Americans(U.S.A. mainland blacks) and Puerto Rican blacks that are indistinguishable in features from each other. Only thing different is culture/heritage but they both obviously share Afrodescendancy and blackness.
Puerto Ricans ARE West Indians just like Jamaicans and other islanders!

@Redskin1040, Like I said, if it weren't for the fact that we are a U.S. Territory, we wouldn't be having this discussion. The problem is, people tend to only consider the Anglophone Caribbean as "West Indies" all the while ignoring the French, Dutch, and Spanish, which is quite ignorant if you think about it. Look up the translation of "West Indian" into Spanish, and you will get "antillano" which we definitely are. We even celebrate a west indian carnival every year for crying out loud.
-
@jahlionpr Geographically speaking I'll concede to that. Where though, can I see an official nomenclature or reference of PR being called West Indies? Just for my information.
-
@Redskin1040, like I said, the only reason you haven't seen that is because we are a U.S. Commonwealth therefore it is not required to write W.I. even though I have seen it before. (my cousin works for USPS in Cupey). But the reason you don't consider Puerto Ricans west indian is because you are looking at it from a political point of view. I'm looking at it from a geographic and cultural point of view. Not only are we located in the West Indies, but we are in constant trade with them.
-
@jahlionpr I agree that Trinidad and other island nations are the west indies. I have never used, heard, seen anyone or any institution make reference to, or address P.R. as anything but Puerto Rico, USA and not Puerto Rico, West Indies, that's all.
-
@jahlionpr...anyways, you and I both know the reason so many people are quick to jump up and say: "hey, Puerto Ricans are not west indian" is not the same reasons that you say we aren't. People are just so caught up in the whole "Puerto Ricans are Latinos" trip, that they don't realize that West Indian doesn't just mean "Jamaican", "Grenadian" etc etc etc...hell, I've met Americans who think Puerto Rico is in South America...go figure. Most people are clueless of the Caribbean's diversity.
I just stumbled across a fucking gem here. This is fucking hillarious!! NOONE that is Puerto Rican should take this seriously. Its pro wrestling, people. Lighten up. Besides, as stated above by someone who IS Puerto Rican, Carlos Colon booked this. This has to be one of the best promos I've seen in years. Too bad the Lawler of today is such a shell of his former self.
