When transiting from straight hair to natural hair, many women become discouraged, confused, and often consider re-relaxing their hair. The Hair Doctor, Trichologist Lisa Akbari asks you to join her on her personal journey from natural to relaxed hair, and then back from relaxed to natural hair, as she shares new ways to make the transition. Akbari will feature weekly updates to share healthy techniques, hair care and styles, and offer encouragement as you make the journey with her. Keep the faith and remember that healthy hair is good hair!

  • WOW, that is so nice of you ! I'm two years natural, though I enjoyed my journey the first time around I can't imagine doing it again, how long are you going to transition before you do a big chop ?

  • Congrats on your natural hair journey!

When transitioning from straight hair to natural, there doesn't have to be a big chop. I will show that you can transition from straight to natural and only cut the relaxed hair away once you get the desired length. This is less traumatic and you will not feel like your hair was chopped. And remember, those of you that want to do the big chop, chop away! But my journey will offer an alternative.

  • WoW that is a big sacrifice to apply relaxer to my natural hair, after being natural for so long.

  • If you have natural hair then I am in no way suggesting that you relax your hair. I am going to relax my hair, and then transition back to natural hair with those that are making the decision to go natural. I am making the sacrifice for ladies who are struggling as they transition from straight to natural hair. This is in no way going to be an easy journey, as it was not an easy decision to make. My hope is that women who are transitioning will be blessed.

  • I want to sign the petition saying "Please don't do it!" How about this!!!! Select a subscribed, relaxed youtuber (have a contest!) as your subject!! That would be so much more interesting, not only for the viewers but for the lucky lady selected! Your hair is so beautiful; please consider my idea instead!!

  • can we start a petition saying don't do it. you hair is so beautiful. why not bring someone with relaxed hair into your video from january and we will watch how you help her get back to natural hair without losing hair.

Its like putting bad chemical on good soil even though we do everything to get the soil back to its original goodness the soil is never quiet right again.

  • This is fucking stupid.

And "relaxer" is not a drug.

You seem to be on drugs though, to do something this dumb.

  • wat a sacrifce!! u will help a lot women!!!

  • so excited to transition with you! can't wait! :D

  • hi good to see you back with new videos. I think this is wonderful what you are doing. I think it's awesome that you take the time to inform us on how to care for our hair and now you are taking this extra step wow. You are a great dr and a great person. smiles. God bless

  • Woooooooo........ooooooooow

  • People get frustrated as they transition, so instead of just saying what you need to do, she's going to go through the entire journey. She's going to be back to natural after the journey has concluded.

  • Wow, thanks for taking folks along as you baby step them through this hair journey. I'll be watching.

  • hi lisa. i admire you a lot that's why i am leaving a comment. i have a suggestion that i think would be better. i think that you should either run a contest or pick one of the people who want to transition and take them into your institute FREE of charge for services (they would be responsible for their own gas, lodging, food, etc.). Then you can walk all the people who want to go on the journey with that person who you chose to go from straight to kinky hair. that way everyone is happy. :-)

  • That's awesome!!!! You are a true teacher:) Thank you.

  • Wow! I admire your willingness to want to help others and teach them how to transition properly. I don't know if I would have the strength to go back. However, I do understand why you're doing it.

    God bless you Dr. Akbari!
