A video of Guernsey's Customs & Excise and Fisheries patrol vessel 'Leopardess' as it arrives in St. Peter Port harbour, Guernsey, Channel Islands.

This was the same boat that Martin Clunes went on when he filmed The Islands Of Britain.

  • @SteamboatWilley Yes both use it. We have an area up to so many miles offshore (i forget how many) which is our territory and no 'forign' fishing vessels can fish, but our fishermen can fish outside the limit as well into the main area of the English Channel. We used to have lots of large French and UK fishing vessels fishing close to shore taking the supply away from our fishermens income. So Fisheries polices that. I'm not a fisherman myself but thats how I seem to remember how it works.

  • Interesting. So the same boat is used by Customs and Fisheries? Efficiency!

In the UK there are so many different agencies enforcing the law at sea, with the UK Border Agency, Marine Scotland and the Royal navy Fisheries protection Squadron. I think we should be like the USA, where the Coast Guard do all these things and the navy is not involved in law enforcement.
