although I 'am an unrepentant atheist sick of the twist and tangles of "religion" and believe religion should always be challenged and needs criticism and dissent... it is ridiculous to compare christianity to islam - jesus was a pacifist who preached love and understanding / the the bible largely today to be read as parables open to interpretation - mohammed was a murdering war lord who preached submission or death / the koran rigid totalitarian dogma dictated to be obeyed as fact

@blazingcatfur all the far leftists i have met (even the atheists) do not in any way think religion is a "joke". Coren unfortunately lumps this behavior into the ideological moniker of "the left" and homogenizes a very diverse platform. It's easy to lump people into these categories and stereotypes.... it takes less thinking and draws more viewers in.

@blazingcatfur When someone says Hitler wasn't a catholic, they're not defending catholicism, they're defending history. Catholicism would be antithetical to Hitler's german nationalism, as in his mind, one could not have dual allegiance to his fatherland, and to the pope, who was typically a non-german.

@fallingbob9 the legend of jesus is indeed one of peace and pacifism. The problems lie in the mortals who practise christianity. I'm referring to hundreds of years of crusades, inquisitions, live burnings at the stake, residential schools for natives here in Canada, pedophilia cover-ups on a mass scale, denial of contraceptive aid for poor countries....etc.
