Dance duo about intergenerational mentorship.
Clover Mathis - Among other things, I am a sixty-one-year-old native of southeastern rural Georgia, Coffee County. I moved to Manhattan in 1969 to become a charter member of Dance Theatre of Harlem. My performing experience also includes dancing with the Alvin Ailey American Dance Theatre, Hartford Ballet, Boston Repertory Ballet, Berkeley Ballet, and Sacramento Ballet. Watching the film of the first Men's Story Project corroborated some of my own long-standing issues regarding being my original human self versus being a 'man.' I am thrilled to be a part of this ground-breaking event.
Folawole Oyinlola: I'm an artist, theorist, director, movement coach and massage therapist in SF. I've lived here for about 4 years. Grew up in a few countries but never took a flag. My parents are from Nigeria. Trained and performed with San Francisco Ballet, Sarah Shelton Mann and many other voices influencing dance, theater, singing, film and conceptual art. I'm inspired by our affective perception, beauty and intuition. Thankful to be a CHIME participant for 2009. With the support of Josie and Mr. Clover Mathis, I chose to participate in the Men's Story Project because it offered me a platform to explore, learn and direct a male-based intergenerational work. www.folawole.org
