Carny- A documentary film by Alison Murray

Directed by Alison Murray, this documantary is a look at the Carnival as both pop culture and sub-culture of Americana. Carny captures the colorful images of the midway at county fairs but also goes behind the bright lights and whirling twirling rides into the elusive world of the carnival worker. Accompanying the images are tender and raunchy interviews with the carnival workers. The carnival emerges as its own living, breathing entity, which can be a transient creator of nostalgic romance for the towns in which it sets up the temporary midway of rides and games, or providing a place of refuge and escape for both those who follow its lead and those who eagerly await its arrival. This is a unique view of a seemingly ageless American pastime.

Exactly. I knew a guy became a carny because he wanted to send his daughter to college only problem was his wife threw him out and he couldn't get a job so he joined a carnival and sends most of his money to his kid. Some people may think they're scum but don't judge carnies because some of them became carnies for a noble cause and they had no other way.

I respect Carnies and the Carnival World.Carnivals have been a fascination of mine ever since I was 4 years old. I can still remember the days when I would force my parents to drive me to the local Carnival so I can watch the rides and lights go around so that I could get to sleep at night.I had a dream of owning my own Carnival someday and that dream came true in miniature rides which is less expensive than high overhead so the dream has come true. I am a true Carnival Fan!!!

I love the way you people make all these awful comments about the hard working people you created... thats right they were your friends family and neighbors before they worked at the carnival.The same idiots making the comments are the same people that come out to the fair and spend hundreds.
