Haiti has the lowest percentage of tree cover of any country in the Western Hemisphere. With a vision for a greener, more sustainable Haiti, Timberland and its partners, Yéle Haiti and Trees for the Future are launching Yéle Vert, a community based tree planting and agroforestry program in Gonaives that includes 5 community tree nurseries and 1 central tree nursery. The community volunteers work together at the nurseries to plant seeds for trees that will provide food, shelter, fuel and soil protection. Timote Georges, agronomist from Trees for the Future, explains that they are training the Haitian people on how to use the trees in a sustainable way.
