This is a track off of a vcd I bought in Xinjiang. Good Uyghur music from Envar. This guy's Dutar skills are pretty incredible.

It seems Uyghurs are a mixture of Turko-Mongol and Iranian people. They don't all look so Mongolian. Ancient Manichean manuscripts were found in Turan. There must have been settlements by a group of Iranian-speaking people there, especially after Islam. Any factual information on what seems like a strong Indo-European stream among the Uyghurs ?

@engimalover Most Uyghurs are much more like western Turks in appearance. That part of the world has been conquered and/or inhabited by so many different peoples over time. Mongolians, Chinese, Greeks, Turks, you name it.

As far as Indo-European influences, at least in language, there is probably a lot of Persian influence, but the language is still VERY Turkic. I have seen a Uyghur and a Turk understand each other, the languages still have so much in common.

This tells the Oguz Turks and the Other Turkish Tribes where they lived together. But later the Oguz tribes had to went to the West where they are mostly there like Turkey or parts of Afghanistan...because chinese killed a very much number of Turks there.

@UyghurKnight, I think that taschenrechner was referring to the Macedonian invasion (under Alexander the Great) of what is now Afghanistan. The Macedonians were indeed speakers of Greek, and Afghanistan is in Central Asia. Still, you've got a point.

Ms. Munujat Yulchieva has put some music of Islamic culture in one CD. enjoy the music and be happy that you can enjoy it. do not fall in to trap of schuavonism or Euro American governments and their serving so called intelectuals. all cultures add to each other . keep that in mind all culturs add to each other.

I don't understand these writings that Uyghur is europian. If uyghur is europian then what are germans? marcians?. variety of turkish are there from ural down to Turkaman sahara in Iran , from uyghur to easter n Bulgharia. Farsi enriched turkish same time Arabic enriched Farsi. I am so glad that in today's Uzbekistan people are keeping the golden era of Islamic culture ( and I am not religious ). If you can; get the Ms. Munujat Yulchieva's CD, this great hard working artist has put .

@engimalover Uighurs are Turkic people, but Mongols were assimilated into them later (in 1300s). But Uighurs are not Iranians. Some Sogdian refugees escaped the Islamic Jihad by the Arabs came to the Uighur Khaganate in 800s. They brought Manichism and Sogdian script to the Kaganate. Yes the original Uighur tribes were indo-European people (we didn't need Iranians to be so). we have the highest European element in their blood watch?v=zy329hpwZEQ . Uighurs and Hungarians come frm same origin.
