Shoes Around My Heart: the horseshoe love song (original)

About a dozen years ago, my brother-in-law Steve ("Big Steve," as we call him) and I found ourselves sitting together on the floor of his trailer after everyone else had gone to bed. It was still pretty early as far as we where concerned- Steve still had most of a bottle of rum left, and I had about a dozen beers remaining.

And I had my guitar.

So we decided to write a song together.

We felt we should write about something we knew, and since we were heavily into playing horseshoes at the time we decided to write about that. And knowing that most popular songs have a "love" theme, we combined the two genres to create this "horseshoe love song."

As far as we know to this day, this may be the only love song placed in the setting of a horseshoe tournament. At the time, we felt that this must mean that there was a pent-up demand for such a song.

We completely ignored the possibility that this might just mean that there is, in fact, no demand whatsoever for a "horseshoe love song."

Thanks, Dan! It's a somewhat incomplete novelty song, but Steve & I had a fun evening coming up with it. We have fond, though blurry, memories of that night.
