@godzwater In flames didn't help creating the genre at all, they just made really good melodic death metal albums with Lunar Strain, The Jester Race and Whoracle. When they released "Lunar Strain", Eucharist, At the Gates, Desultory, Carcass and Dark Tranquillity already released their melodic death metal albums.

Isn't Death the founder of Melodic Death Metal.....?

The creation of melodic death metal has often been credited to the band Carcass, specifically with the release of their album Heartwork in 1993. Finnish band Amorphis have also been credited with a similar title, with their release of Tales from the Thousand Lakes in 1994. The first bands to distinctly establish the genre however were three bands from Gothenburg, Sweden, who at the time, were all associated with one another: In Flames, Dark Tranquillity, and At the Gates.

it means they use vocals that come from regular death metal but they add melodically musical music instead of sludgy and jumbled music.

true however DarkReaper898 said that they started melodic death metal and i was simply saying that they really only evolved into their current sound in their last records, but to be honest with you i really hate debating genres lol
why are people who listen to metal so critical of every fuckin genre of metal and every band? I have a suggestion: stop worrying about what other people listen to and what they classify as metal. I just love metal. sure, i think bands suck, but i dont put down anyone for liking those bands. its all opinion. it just seems like every metalhead has a different defintion for everything. The truth is there is no right answer, it is opinion. *hint hint sounyatsura
