i love this series. i grew up watching it and i love how respectable the ingalls children are of their parents. nothing like how kids are today. guess i'm kinda of old fashoned but i don't care lol

@Rach1105 I agree on some level. Although I'm a big fan of the LHOP series, there was something far grittier and authentic about this pilot. Pa and Ma Ingalls weren't perfect "angels", like later on--they were flawed human beings who showed flawed human emotions. If the WHOLE series would have been exactly like the pilot, it would've been a television masterpiece on the same level as 'Roots", in my opinion.

Melissa Gilbert auditioned against 500 child actors for the role of Laura. Michael only submitted her screen test to NBC studio's for consideration. She got the part of Laura while she was standing in the lunch line at school from Michael's daughter Leslie......which Leslie got grounded for it.

I love how after the opening the first 5 min. is just traveling. Not talking or anything, just showing what they went through traveling. Great filiming and concept. Such a gem it is to watch this show now in a time when this sort of quality is lacking on television today.

THis pilot is very very good!I love it and cannot help watching it.It is very close to Laura Ingall's books.The Ingalls were pionners who travelled in a wagon during months before settling at Walnut grove and they were very brave.They lived with few things but were happy and built a wooden house on the prairie the indian territory.

carrie is so cute at 2:36 my mom used to do that to me when i was a little girl.
