Bush administration officials have wisely chosen to ignore most of Chavez's taunts, not wanting to play into his hands and hoping that he will self-destruct.
If Venezuelans reject Chavez's power grab, it will send an important message to him and to others who want to undermine democratic institutions, such as Vladimir Putin, who is seeking to rig this weekend's parliamentary elections in Russia.
It is true that power corrupts. But democracy can trump it, unless too many people vote to give away their own power.

I'm not sure what this has to do with 2012, but i'm just glad chavez lost the referendum. My whole family is in venezuela. and i can promise you Chavez is not within the heart of many venezuelans. I wish he would just go away. Then atleast we can stop planning how to get my family out of that country when chavez goes entirely nuts. and for the Chavezta over there long live the truth fuck chavez.
