Only 1 Lincoln was built for JFK and it was a regular strech convertible with no armor. LBJ returned it to Ford and it was rebuilt with armor. Later Nixon took this car to China. It stayed in the Secret Service fleet till 1978 and used for visiting dignitaries. This was same way the 1951 Lincoln built for Eisenhower was kept in service till 1965, Facts are documented by Ford Motor Company and Presidential Libraries. JFK did ride in other limos but they were Cadillacs or Chryslers.

@pamina58 Like the Riviera protoype, it had many numbers associated with it at various stages of design

@bass5str These cars have all kinds of #'s at different stages. Unless we want a log book stating the exact date, let's just use the most famous #

The Secret Service also used the handles "X100" and "SSX100" for the JFK limo.
"1961 Lincoln Continental SS-100-X Presidential State Car" is what it was named as it came from the Hess & Eisenhardt stage of construction.

@isezgz Yes, Ferdinands car was VERY significant but it's not like these things can be quantified. To most Americans, JFKs assassination car would top the list!

There exist photos of holes in the metal trim around the windshield, and in the windshield itself. All damaged parts of the interior were replaced, and the rest cleaned-up before the Warren Commission came into being.

"most historically, politically and sociologically significant car of the 20th century"
Wouldn't that be the car in which Archduke Franz Ferdinand was shot causing the start of the First World War?
16 million deaths, 21 million wounded, I think that is definitely more historically, politically and sociologically significant..

Lets fight about it!

what is the point of this dialogue. the people associated with the vehicle from the Lincoln division of the Ford motor company, or the the fact it was REBUILT SHORTLY FOLLOWING JFK'S MURDER are the ones to follow. It demonstrates the fact that shots came from the FRONT of the vehicle. That ruins the lone nut lie. Second, why did the SS alter the route which if Oswald had even been in the book depository, he could carried his "mission" out on Houston Avenue.
There is a dent in the chrome around the windshield and a star-shaped defect on the windshield. In December, 1963 the limo was driven to Dearborn and then to Hess and Eisenhardt in Ohio to be gutted to metal and rebuilt as a bulletproof car for LBJ. It was also painted black at that time. There was one more rebuild after that.

That is total BS. The entire interior of this car was stripped out, the hard top attached and it was then used by President Johnson and Ford before it was retired. There are NO stains in this car.

The JFK limousine was stripped down to metal and rebuilt in December, 1963. It was rebuilt as a bulletproof car. It was then used by LBJ (who ordered it painted black), Nixon and even Carter. The only part of the JFK limo that remained after the rebuild was the frame itself.

X100???? I'm a JFK assassination buff, I've read probably 25-30 books about this event and its aftermath, and I have NEVER seen or heard this vehicle referred to as "X100".

Try reading the 3-page "FBI Protective Research Report" dated November 27, 1963 by SAIC Geiglein and SA Taylor where they ID the limouisine as 100-X and the Cadillac followup car as 679-X. Receipt for delivery at the White House in June 1961 also inticates the Lincoln, by the Secret Service, as "SS-100-X."

I have. What is your point?

"X100" is what people at the Ford Motor Company call the car. The SS labeled it "SS-100-X", meaning it was in use as a Secret Service car.
