Kris wants to boycott Utah in response to the Mormon church's participation in passing Proposition 8 in California; Lindy wants a moratorium on political discussion.
Of course you feel rotten. That is natural. Rise above it. Show you are the BETTER citizen, not one of the jack-booted thug brigade. And let me clarify something...I can understand boycotting a Marriott or something, but the local folks need to be approached as individuals and be made aware of your concerns on human terms, not through picket signs or YouTube videos. You have their names and addresses...maybe pair up on bicycles and go visit them. ha ha
I advocate everyone getting the same exact rights as everyone else. Anything else is inequality and division. Proposition 8 is a representation of division. If you divide and segregate a group of people, then they're going to become resentful. It's a very natural reaction to being treated like crap.
I mean let the desire for vengeance go, not your end goal. By all means, try to change society, but don't do it through division, anger, and hate - like the people you oppose. Love them into submission. You assume that anyone who disagrees with you is some evangelical theocratician. Not so. The goal here is the same, but your path is sewing seeds of discord. I advocate a door to door approach. You advocate burning down the house - metaphorically speaking.
No, I'm sure YOU'LL be happier if I let it go. People's equal rights are trampled on, and you say let it go. That's golden. What does "whipping boy" have to do with anything? We're talking about the civil rights of all Americans. A livable society? What you mean is, creating a livable society where theocracy reigns supreme and certain people don't have certain rights. Remember, division is not a path to freedom.
What are you talking about? What's there to discuss with the neighbors? Prop 8 should have never been on the ballot in the first place. Why? Because it's unconstitutional and bigoted. There IS going to be a change. That's why they're overturning Prop 8. I'm opposing because it's NOT RIGHT. My comparisons are more than accurate, they're precise. Counseling? Why, when I can get all my morals and guidance out of some magical book?
Not sure who beat you as a kid, Tinker, but I'm sure you'll be happier if you let it go, be happy with who you are, and quit trying to find solace in vengeance. I'm guessing from the references to being "pissed on" that some kid in high school did you wrong and now you need a whipping boy. Try making friends with some of those people you feel are so stupid and create a livable society. Partition, division, hatred, and vengeance is not a path to freedom, Jinnah.
Luckily thinking adults will, person by person, discuss with their Mormon, Catholic, Orthodox Jewish, Chinese, Filipino, SE Asian, Indian, Islamic, Latino, Evangelical, and African American neighbors why prop 8 is a valid civil rights concern and will communicate with them in real, human, and civil terms why there needs to be a change. Must you sink to the incivility of the opposition? Judging by your persistent scatological comparisons, it appears you must. Seek counseling. Soon. Please.
Yes, I said, "you people." Kind of like the way that you said, "I vandalized, assaulted, and slurred their friends." There's your double standard in action again, with just a hint of hypocrisy. By the way, you mean slur as in "faggots," right? "Meeting hate by taking the high road?" Are you serious? That's easy to say when you haven't been pissed on because of whom you're married to. I don't believe in cosmic bummers; I believe in equal constitutional and civil rights.
You people? You have no idea who you are talking to, and here you go with this "you people" garbage. Meeting hate by taking the high road is not a double standard...it is what people who really understand how to change the world do. If hate is what you believe so strongly in, then you have inherited what you have caused. Cosmic vibrations of Karma are a real bummer, no?
You talk about resentment, hatred and not letting hate go. How can you not realize that everyone sees these double standards you people are pulling? How would you like it if a group of religious people took a shit on your head and peed on you. You decide to boycott their businesses, and in turn, get accused of being hateful and resentful? The Mormons can donate until they're down to their sacred underwear, and we'll continue to boycott.
