"I wrote this (in the summer of 1970) when I was 18 years old. This was the first song that made me think I might actually make a living as a songwriter. I still find it a special piece to perform." (Dan Fogelberg)
"To The Morning" the first song on Dan Fogelbergs first album "Home Free" (released 1972), began with strings, sustaining a hauntingly beautiful chord which faded into the song "To The Morning"; a song of hope invoking the day with the lyric, "There is really nothing left to say but 'come on, morning.'"
"Birds", the last song on "Love In Time" , his last studio album (released 2009), ends with the lyric, "It's over," and a similar sustained chord, fading to end the album. Long time fans, upon hearing the final chord of "Birds", have said they expected to hear "To The Morning" begin to play. And so the ending meets the beginning, "In a spiral never-ending".
To all loyal Danfan, lets hear it from Dan one more time, because It's not over, it continue "To The Morning", where the ending meets the beginning, it's a Full Circle in a spiral never ever ending, let it shine, ever on....
To The Morning (Lyrics)
Watching the sun...watching it come
Watching it come up over the rooftops
Cloudy and warm...maybe a storm
You can never quite tell from the morning
(Chorus)
And it's going to be a day
There is really no way to say no to the morning
Yes it's going to be a day
There is really nothing left to say but come on morning
Waiting for mail
Maybe a tale from an old friend or even a lover
Sometimes there's none
But we have fun thinking of all who might have written
(Chorus)
And maybe there are seasons
And maybe they change
And maybe to love is not so strange
The sounds of the day
Now they hurry away
Now they are gone until tomorrow
When day will break and you will wake
And you will rake your hands across your eyes and realize
That it's going to be a day
There is really no way to say no to the morning
Yes it's going to be a day
There is really nothing left to say but come on morning
And maybe there are seasons and maybe they change
And maybe to love is not so strange
Dan is and always will be my absolute favorite! I am a Mormon who started to listen to Dan while on a hockey scholarship in Canton, NY in 1972. Tough times came and so did Dan"s beautiful album Home Free which set me free from alot of hurt as I was injured playing hockey. I never saw any concerts nor did I meet him but I just told my wife I cant wait till I meet Dan in heaven. Brian56205

@cheaseturtles Dan’s lyrics and melodies have inspired me to come forward to create tribute videos to him after his passing, and I am glad I have done it and accomplished many. May his timeless music and boundless love continue to heal us through the toughest times, bring joy and happiness to you and stays in our hearts for ever on... God bless you always!

I remember when I heard that Dan had died of cancer, I just said, "Oh no!". Loved his music in the late 70`s/early 80`s while in college. It was like a consoling, up-lifting balm that helped me get through so many things. Thanks for your great videos, JMEagle! They`re so beautiful!

Thank you, MJEagle101:
This is, positively, the *most* beautiful video on YouTube I ever seen.
The stunning imagery you've chosen is in sync with these touching lyrics, and gives me the same peaceful feeling of love and joy of life -- that fluttered in my heart -- the very last time I saw Dan Fogelberg in concert.
No doubt, his voice was musical poetry.
It's sometimes hard to believe -- he's really gone.
Time doesn't seem to heal losing him forever. Perhaps it never will.
