The Markeaton Lady Does Us Proud

On possibly her last weekend at the Markeaton Park Light Railway before returning to Exmoor for an overhaul and a new coat of paint (not in blue though!) the railways 0-4-2T Steam Locomotive "Markeaton Lady" is seen in steam for the first time in 4 months, having been resting in the shed over winter.

Staff at the railway can be heard letting a cheer out as she leaves the sheds under her own power for the first time this year. Listen out for the excited use of the whistle! She is due to return to Markeaton in May in a new livery, until then the railways resident Baby Deltic will haul trains.

Now they've sold her I see. Shame really. I was going to make a special trip to Derby to see the engine in steam. Steam has such a big appeal to the public. Its a shame that the only MPLR services will now be diesel hauled. Such a shame. Oh well, it just goes to show that money is everything with steam loco's. Nice film, something to remember it by.

What colour is its new livery going to be?

I'm afraid that due to costly repairs the Lady is not returning to Markeaton Park. She is currently in pieces down in Exmoor. Her future is currently unknown. This is the last piece of film of the Lady at Markeaton.

Amongst other general parts a new boiler, as the original one has deteriorated so much.
